Apparently, the tables have been turned on the mistress of musical shock and awe.
Madonna, who titillated teenagers and disgusted parents for years — from the moment she showed up dressed in lace on the cover of Like a Virgin, to her mock crucifiction, to her oh so culturally important sex book – is apparently stunned by a sexual cleansing ritual that is a cultural staple in the African nation of Malawi (where she adopted her son David in 2006).
Most shocking of all, she doesn’t have to look at her hands when she plays guitar! Wait, she can play guitar?!?!
I found the link to this story from the good people at Fark (scroll down to view the feed on the right-hand column).
Pop superstar Madonna was left shocked and appalled by a bizarre sex ritual which young widows in Malawi have to go through after their husbands die – because it fuels the spread of Aids in the country.
In fairness to our modern-day female version of Elvis, it appears her concerns were based more on the spread of Aids then the fact that the widows are “forced to have sex three times with a stranger from outside her village as part of a cleansing ritual.”
Still, the irony runs thicker than her remarkable British accent.
How, in the name of Howard Stern does anything shock Madonna? That’s her thing, her schtick. Dare I say, the prime reason for her success?
What’s next, Madonna standing on her porch, waving a broom handle at the neighbor kids, screaming at them to get off her lawn? It’s just sad, this slow decline of a once edgy star into middle-aged boredom, and the only thing I can figure is that she sees the writing on the wall … her time is done.
You could sense her desperation back in 2003 when she planted a juicy one on the once attractive face of Britney Spears. But now, perhap, she’s giving up.

Why would this not be shocking? What I find more shocking is that anyone would disagree with someone who thinks the degradation of a human being and the spread of disease should be downplayed to Madonna’s opinion.
Agreed that the degradation of any human is a terrible thing. The irony lies in such opinions coming from a person like Madonna, who has based her career on sex-based shock value.
